The ability to hear and communicate clearly is the most important aspect of our ability to socialize and participate in the world around us. Millions of Americans struggle with some degree of hearing loss and it significantly impacts their daily lives. Unfortunately, many people are procrastinating in seeking help with their hearing because they just aren’t sure what to expect. As a result, they avoid receiving a hearing aid evaluation in favor of living with impaired hearing that impacts their relationships and quality of life.

At Audiology Consultants of Southwest Florida, we understand that the idea of being fitted for hearing aids can be concerning. That’s why we’ve decided to do our best to take the mystery out of the hearing aid evaluation experience. Properly fitted hearing aids can change lives, and we believe that no one who would benefit from amplification should have to live in a quiet world.

Hearing aid evaluations consist of a few different steps, and each one plays an important role in determining the kind of hearing aids that will best suit your needs. We are ready to walk you through every stage of the hearing aid evaluation process, and we’ll stick with you every step of the way. It’s important to us that you understand what we’re doing and why we’re doing it, so we do our best to keep the experience as straightforward as possible.

Testing Your Hearing

Before we can determine the right hearing aids for your needs, we have to understand what those needs might be. This is where the hearing test comes in. We’ll take some time to talk to you and ask about the ways you have noticed that your hearing loss affects your quality of life. The more specifics we know about this problem, the better we can customize a solution.

Once we have that information and a better idea of the kinds of sounds that you might be missing, we’ll conduct a hearing test to confirm that information and determine the specific benefits that you would receive from properly fitted hearing aids.

Once your hearing test is completed, will explain the results and the types of available solutions and present you with the hearing aid options that best compensate for your hearing loss. We will cover all the details so you have the knowledge and information as to how to best move forward to improve your hearing. Together we will find the best solution to improve your quality of life.

Hearing Aid Fitting and Upkeep

After we place the order for your hearing aids, we will schedule you for your hearing aid fitting. We will be programming the hearing aids at this appointment with the initial settings, and you will be taking the aids home to start your new journey into a world filled with all the sounds you had lost.

The fitting and upkeep instructions we provide will allow you to ease into the use of your new hearing aids until they become a natural part of your everyday routine. By properly fitting your hearing aids, you will be able to them comfortably and adapt to them easily. Patients report that a proper fitting makes it feel as though the hearing aid “is not even there.”
We also show you how to maintain your hearing aids so that they are always in pristine condition and functioning properly. We show you how to examine the device for debris, how to clean it using a toothbrush which we provide, and how to perform simple maintenance.

Once your hearing aids are properly fitted, we may test your hearing at a follow-up appointment with different tones and speech with and without the aids so you can hear the difference the hearing aids make. Each session is carefully monitored and documented to give you not only a thorough listening experience but also to provide you with documentation of the process and results.

After we determine additional information from testing or your report of how you are perceiving sound, we program your hearing aids so that you receive the maximum hearing improvement from the devices. We will show you how to adjust any setting that may be available in your aids, assuring that you are fit with a device that is completely tailored to your specific needs. Should you ever need additional assistance with your hearing aids, we are always happy to provide our services. After your initial fitting, we will be scheduling you for a 2-week follow-up to asses and make any additional adjustments.
“I like how thorough the examination was and how the audiologist explained every detail of my new hearing aid. He also made sure I fully understood his explanation.”

Time Matters for Hearing Aid Evaluations

You might wonder if completing a hearing aid evaluation is really necessary. Research shows that hearing loss can directly impact personality and can make people more likely to become withdrawn and isolated over time. In addition, studies show that adults who experience hearing loss and do not wear hearing aids are at greater risk for poorer memory, cognitive decline and Alzheimers.

Our hearing aid evaluations aim to help our clients resolve these risks by providing them with hearing aids that compensate for their loss of hearing and allow them to continue to engage with the world around them.
Finally, a hearing aid evaluation encourages our patients to notice the significant difference that well-fitted hearing aids can provide. Once they understand the benefits, they are poised to return to their daily lives and enjoy all the newly-distinct sounds around them. Taking action is all it takes to make a change in your life. Time matters here, and so do you.
A new you awaits on the other side of our doors, and we are prepared to do whatever it takes to help you find that person. Our director, Jack Adams, believes that no one’s listening ability should be limited and that each person is deserving of clear and distinct hearing. Our doors are always open, and we can’t wait to serve you. Improving your quality of life is what we do best.

Each session is carefully monitored and documented to give you not only a thorough listening experience but also to provide you with documentation of the process and results.

Hearing aids have been a part of my busy life for many years. The excellent Oticon [Syncro] product combined with the meticulous care taken to fit them properly has vastly improved my ability to communicate. Friends have mentioned that my conversation is normal again because I can hear and respond.
